For the last several years, the Greater Dallas Garden Club has made it a priority to bestow an annual contribution to another worthy non-profit in the garden community. At the March 24, 2019 speaker meeting, Mike DeGroot, President of the GDOGC presented Dr. Chris Dowdy, VP of Academic Affairs at Paul Quinn College with the club’s 2018 donation for the college’s We Over Me Farm.
Last April, the GDOGC visited the farm and were blown away with the good they were accomplishing there! After their football program was eliminated – Dr. Dowdy joked that it was because the team “wasn’t very good” – the college took the unusual approach of converting the newly vacated gridiron into today’s organic We Over Me Farm.

By making this important cultural change, their farm program helps to make available healthy, seasonal, affordable foods in what is a federally-recognized “food desert” in south Dallas. The program provides important hands on, life changing educational opportunities towards healthy eating, organic farming, and environmental stewardship.
