Pollinators, Perennials, and Plants for the Texas Shade!
The Greater Dallas Organic Garden Club invites you to attend our Sunday, July 27, 2025 program at North Haven Gardens when our speaker will be Texas Discover Garden's Greenhouse and Horticulture Operations Director, Keaton Hutto. Keaton will speak about popular and successful pollinator plants that he recommends and that are also grown at the Texas Discover Gardens both for demonstration and for the popular plant sales.
2:30pm refreshments. 3:00pm meeting start.
Overview:
Join us as Keaton takes a vibrant look at some of the best pollinator plants, both annuals and perennials, for our tough Texas climate. From bold bloomers like Mexican Sunflower and Zinnias to perennial favorites like Peter's Purple Monarda and Tennessee Coneflower, Keaton will highlight colorful, wildlife friendly selections that thrive in the heat. He'll also share top picks for shady North Texas yards beneath mature trees, perfect for gardeners looking to bring life to the understory.
BIO:Keaton Hutto is the Greenhouse & Horticulture Operations Director at Texas Discovery Gardens in Fair Park, where he oversees plant production, horticultural planning and landscape cultivation across the 7.5 acre garden. A West Texas native, Keaton grew up helping his family tend large home gardens, which sparked a lifelong passion for plants and the natural world. He earned his degree in Agriculture from West Texas A&M University and after gaining experience in other professional fields, returned to horticulture where his roots truly are. His work today reflects a deep commitment to sustainable gardening practices and a love for Texas native and adapted plants that thrive in tough conditions.
Our meetings are always free and open to the pubic. Bring a friend!
A note from your GDOGC President
April 2025
All the shades of green leafing out on all the different trees are so refreshing to my eyes and spirit. And there are scientific studies that show eyesight is improved by being outside and feasting our eye on growing green plants, so I am enjoying the green as I go around my yard putting in lots of color to go with the green.
I wanted to let you know that the club has postponed our members garden tour until September 6th . Hopefully that will be a better time for everyone so that we can get you to volunteer your yard to be on the tour. We have so much fun with this I hope you would be willing to participate.
At our April meeting Marjie will be outlining our itinerary for our annual Field Trip and be passing around the sign- up sheets. She has done a wonderful job on this again this year!
I want to thank Peter Schaar for hosting our spring Plant Sale, Karen Wright for leading the volunteers and coordinating it all and every single person who volunteered and worked to make it a success on those two rainy cold days.
I will see you at NHG for our April 27th meeting with our speaker from the Herb Society of America.

PRESIDENTS NOTE - MARCH 2025
PLANT SALE! PLANT SALE! PLANT SALE!
With only a little more than two weeks until our plant sale I hope you all have your plants divided and your plants and seeds all potted up, labeled with plant name and sun requirements, and ready to be delivered on Friday, April 4th. We will be setting up in Peter Schaar's back yard starting at 5pm through 7:30pm.
His address is: 6834 Chantilly Lane, Dallas (Lakewood area).
You can bring plants, planters, yard decorations or any garden related items. We still need more tables so if you have one or two please bring that, too. (Make sure the tables are marked with your name.)
This is a fun event and a good chance for you to get to know other club members so don't forget to volunteer! The plant sale is our only fundraiser to help cover the costs of speakers, printed materials, snack ware and our annual field trip.
Thank you for all your help with this!!
Debbie Brooks
Hello all.
It is January again and I can hardly tear myself away from the seed catalogs, they are so fun! Do you, like me, go through and mark everything you want and then when you see the total, gasp and think but they were all so reasonable when it was each packet. Nooo, how can this be??
I am so excited to get started with our Garden Club this year it is going to be GREAT! Allison has already booked some great speakers for our first three meetings. Yay Allison!
Also, the board has scheduled some of the club activities for 2025. So, save these dates:
